HEIC to JPG: Open iPhone Photos on Any Device
If you have ever copied photos from an iPhone to a Windows PC, you have probably hit the problem: the files end in .heic and half of your software refuses to open them. The fastest universal fix is converting HEIC to JPG.
Why does the iPhone use HEIC?
Apple switched to HEIC in 2017 because it stores photos in about half the size of JPG at the same quality. That is great for your phone storage, but the format is still poorly supported outside the Apple ecosystem: older Windows versions, many Android apps, office software and web forms expect JPG or PNG.

Will I lose quality?

Reach for PNG instead only when you need a lossless copy for further editing, or the photo has transparency you need to keep (rare for regular camera photos, common for edited images with a removed background). For plain photo storage and sharing, JPG remains the simpler, smaller choice.
One more detail worth checking after a batch conversion: EXIF orientation. Cameras and phones store an orientation flag rather than physically rotating pixels, and most converters read it correctly — but if a photo turns up sideways, re-saving with the rotation explicitly applied fixes it for good rather than relying on every future viewer to read the flag.
